Concept, programming and production of a conference proceedings cd-rom

A CD-Rom made for the Netherlands design institute. This CD-Rom sets out to present the entire content of the three day 'doors of perception' conference in a playful way. The user has to figure out how it works by playing with the content offered.

The CD-Rom has four sections that present content in a different way. Alls sections use carefully chosen keywords to represent the content of the presentations. These keywords lead to videos and transcriptions of interesting parts of the speakers' presentations. Complete transcriptions are available as well.

VPRO

VPRO

Concept and production of one of the first dedicated kids websites.

The VPRO broadcast organization asked students to create a website for children. This resulted in a planet called 'Pluto' where everybody who logs in gets their own identity. There are several craters on this planet with different attractions. One of these is the digital zoo. The zoo has four sections: the woods, the savannah, the rainforest and an ice floe.

In every area there are five animals to adopt. When you've adopted an animal, it's intended that you keep looking after your animal. If you don't, the animal will decay and will eventually die. If you adopt an animal, you will have to look after it of course. The adopter is the only one who can do that. When looking at someone else's animal, you can send him or her a note about the way the animal is taken care of. If you don't want the animal anymore, you can return the care of the animal to the zoo, so someone else will be able to adopt it.

Unfortunately the VPRO has taken the site offline since they do not longer maintain their 'old' CGI scripts. This was one of the first websites to implement avatars and the Tamagotchi principle before they became widely known.

Het Virtueel Gesprek

Het Virtueel Gesprek

CDRom production

The Virtual Conversation from the VPRO broadcast organisation is a CD-ROM that enables the user to become a moderator in a virtual conversation. Four people who have never met have been able to tell what they considered to be threats in the 21st century. These opinions were recorded and then all of them were allowed to react on the others. Then everybody could react on the reactions and make a conclusion.

The user can listen to the story of one of the speakers and while listening, one can decide to listen to a reaction of one of the other speakers. Pieces of the conversation can be recorded and annotated. These annotations could be uploaded to the accompanying website where other people’s ideas can be reviewed.
